Staff and Structure

National History Day is a nonprofit organization made up of a federation of state History Day programs.

Each state has a state coordinator who is affiliated with a museum, a historical agency, or some other educational or humanities institution. Each state coordinator has district coordinators that serve as NHD coordinators in their region or district. Thousands of people across the country also support the program by serving as contest judges, workshop presenters, mentors, and advisers to students and teachers.
